Last exam paper + Birthday

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Huhu. Its a mix of joy and nervous breakdown.

Today is my birthday, and yet in the day which should be filled with joy and hope, I yet have to face my final exam paper in less than 12 hours!!

I had a great small keep-to-ourselves party with all my friends just now, and what a great surprise and present. I wish I could jot all of ‘em down here, but first I need to get through this exam.

I’ll post more about the birthday later. Until then, wish me luck for this exam!!

Scorching winter :)

Quoted from weather.com "…the local weather will be bitterly cold…"

In India, hundreds died when the temperature reach 6 to 7 degrees, ironically here, in such weather, people still wandering the street, continuing their daily life.

Up there is a satelitte picture and I attached also a Yahoo Widget forecast for the oncoming days. Do I need to elaborate on how cold it could be here?

But, like the russian proverb "U prirodi net plakhoi pagodi" (For nature, there are no bad weathers)…so to all of u, clung to ur breath and lets hope none of us get pneumonia..

and to all my friends living in UK and Aussie, and all the while whining about shivering when it get around 16 - 10 degrees, u are laughable… :) <I said that in the most apologetic way>

OK.Now I quit sarcasm. In reality, this is a really harsh weather.A lot of people being admitted into hospital for Hypothermic, and while I’m wondering how much more people will it be, one of my friend had a syncope due to hypothermic ..right in the middle of the street…God!!! I’m so glad everything was ok…Indeed, if something more serious would happen, we’d be looked upon like a group of bookworm-donkey. I mean, he was practically surrounded by medical students, and when he fainted, we practically did what any other people would do…standing there stunned :) –ok, there;s exception of course..congrats to Aizudeen (who skillfully checked for the pulse presence, waiting impatiently to announce the T.O.D "time of death" <im joking> and Adib who waived the cab and left Azad alone in the blistering snowfall " :)

On Monday,I’ll be facing my Russian Languange exam, but as far as I knew it, my russian didnt improve much ever since I left Malaysia. If it is true that some people lack skills in learning languange, I’d be one of them :) Something must be wrong with my Brucca’s area :)

And all this while I’m trying to memorize the raskaz on my bed.And the wall next to my bed is so damn cold!! It practically absorbed all the heat. I knew, the hygienic norm for bed-wall distance is at least one feet. But hell this is a small room.If I shifted my bed one feet further from this wall, I’d be one feet nearer to the opposite wall…so, it still the same :)

gotta go now, my finger is freezing …brrrrrrrr

‘Brokeback’ wins top Golden Globes

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

BEVERLY HILLS, California (Reuters) - A heady mix of political drama and romance — both gay and straight — won major

Golden Globe Awards on Monday with "Brokeback Mountain" earning the best film drama prize and "Walk the Line" best musical or comedy.

"Brokeback," which has wowed critics and found a sizable audience at box offices with its homosexual love story, walked off with four Golden Globes, more than any movie, including best director for Ang Lee, screenplay and song.

The movie entered the show a favorite among its rivals after having been nominated in a leading seven categories, and it now becomes a clear front-runner for

Oscars, the U.S. film industry’s top awards that will be given out in March.

But "Walk the Line," about the long love affair between singers Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, may be a close No. 2. It earned three Golden Globes and won trophies for stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon as best actor and actress in musical or comedy, respectively.

Felicity Huffman was named best actress in a film drama playing a man on the verge of a sex change in "Transamerica," and Philip Seymour Hoffman was named best film actor in a movie drama for his role as author Truman Capote in "Capote."

The film awards capped a night in which gay movies and characters dominated the winners circle, and the movies’ makers and actors urged audiences to see beyond the gay stories and into deeper themes of love, family ties and fearmongering.

"You can never categorize or stereotype a region or a place. People fall in love, period," Lee said backstage. This is a universal story … I just wanted to make a love story."

How funny can a plastic bag be?

Monday, January 9th, 2006

I’m sure all of us had came across those warning printed on the plastic bag, saying "This plastic bag is not a toy..bla…bla.."

When I shopped ad PUMA boutique last time, it never occured to me to read the label printed on the bottom of the packages. Only 2 days latter when I decided to stuff it under my desk, I came across something….unusual would be the word :P

100_0918_2 what do u think ?? :)

Guess this year lucky..

People do shop for new year, didn’t they?

Well, at least here in Russia, they do..what with all my friends going freakin’ shoppin’..new winter clothing, new mobiles, new pda, new watch, new sunglasses?? what the heck??

But I think i’m not gonna join them…need to save up for travel, and for lots of things…we wouldnt know what could happen latter…so, I think its better to save up some…So I decided, no new winter clothing (although its freakin’ snowin’ in here…damn its freezing!!)..no new snowcap (I’m gonna try to find the one Sha presented me last year)..and no anything…hehe..

I managed to keep up my word, until the 2nd day :P Today we went to Park House, actually for a game of bowling, but it ended up that the place was crammed up..all lanes were booked up to 11p.m…So just to keep ourselves entertained, we went up for window shopping..

so much for a window shopping..

100_0911

I end up spending my money for this PUMA sweater…it still a best buy though, cost me about Rub 1000..thats like RM 100+ …well, for another sweater it will cost round Rub 3000++..But this one is the last in stock, and the shopkeeper gave me a special discount. Guess I’m just lucky :P

Then we browsed thing in Techno-Sila..I was planning to buy a waffle-maker (shared it with 3 other) so that we can sell Belgian waffles to support the fund-raising program for Huda..I ended up buying the new waffle-maker, and a new headseat :)

100_0912

This one guarantees u comfort during workout as well..heheh..like I’m ever going jog during winter time…This one is not really a good buy..I mean, what good is a headset without anything to plug it in??? Dammit!! I should have an mp3 player first :P

But overall, I just happy to buy ‘em..I guest its a present from me to me..New Year present, to celebrate the fact that I’m still living…..and nonetheless, its a privilege…

The dawn of 2006

Sunday, January 1st, 2006

365 days, full of joys and sorrows, and in a glimpse of eyes, 2005 had passed, and we’re welcoming the new, spiritly-uplifted-for-all year of 2006 (well, at least for me)

so, what u guys doing in the eve of new year? (really love to hear ’bout it)
me……well, usually I dont regard new year as an "obligated" celebration. But since I live here in Russia , where New Year is the only meaningful celebration (especially for a country which have "Mezhdunarodniy den KBN")..I decided I might celebrate it as well.

So off I go, I planned a new year get-together party for me and 5 of my closest friends. I had long wanted to witness by myself the catchy fireworks being ignited in the Main Square of Pabshikh Barsov when it’s 12 o’clock, but never had the chance..For 2 years I stay quietly in my room, for the doubt that I might be beaten by the drunken Russian whom faithfully celebrating all their celebration with alcoholic beverages…

But this year, it need to be different. So we decided to go..but, just in case..we book a hotel nearby Walking distance from the square…Iyerlah..at least kalo kene kejar pun smpat lari masuk hotel :P

Hotel Volgograd (claiming themselves as the Best Eastern Hotel)

I still remember that last year, all the shops are closed during the eve..so, we packed with us some food ("well, we need to rephrase "some") and headed to check in around 4.30 p.m.Its already dark though. We had our maghrib prayer, and then headed out for dinner.Lucky for us, the nearby joint is still open, surprisingly with lot of vacancies.

Dinner at the joint - Grand Pizza

After dinner, we took some photographs, and then headed back to our room, and playing games (u dont want to know) to spend time waiting for Kremlevsky Kuranti to strike 12.

20 minutes to 12′..we lead ourselves to the freezing open space of Pavshikh Bortsov. The crowd is already heated with alcohol (yuks!!) and fireworks being ignited here and there..so we decided its better to keep our distance. 5 minutes from 12′ the President address the countrymen (and women) with the same text he read last year :) and then…

DONG! DONG! the Kremlevsky Kuranti strike 12, and the Russian National anthem was played (u know, the longest national anthem, yet without any lyrics)…by the time the song finished,I could barely held my camcorder..it was fuckin’ freezing..the temperature was -8 degrees for God sake!!
The main fireworks was ignited and yes, it’s a spectacular view..

100_0883‘Yolka" ..at minus 8 degrees

Couldnt hold on the freezing any longer, we returned to our room, from where we enjoyed the scenery of party downstairs from the comfort of our balcony. Then we just talked about our wishes and hope, and lot of other stuffs, while watching TV and munching on foods, till its 4 a.m. The cliche thing was that we rented 2 rooms for that night, but after all the munching and chatting, everyone is too lazy to leave the spot, so all of us crammed inside the one room…6 peoples for 3-persons room..well, u can guess how it looked like…

After all, from our talks that night, I learn a lot about my friends, and about myself too. I hope it will somehow help me for my journey throughout the year 2006…

I’ll take this year as a period full of surprises and challenges in my life. I want to travel more, read more, know more, confront more…and etc. And suppose my theme this year would be "LIFE IS A PRIVILEGE"…(although "SEKANGKANG KE HADAPAN" is still under consideration :)

Wish I’d have a lovely year, and I wish that for all of you too…
